About Florence

Florence Cardinal was born in the mid-1930s on the Alberta Prairies of Canada, and has spent her entire life there.

She began writing at an early age with her first publications appearing in Western People (the magazine supplement to the Canadian weekly "Western Producer"). Her articles, fiction and poetry have been published in Good Old Days, Grit, Country Woman, the Canadian Writer's Journal, Fate magazine, and several others.

In 1998, after losing her husband to a heart attack caused primarily by sleep apnea, she began researching sleep and sleep disorders. In January 1999, she began writing about this topic for the web site About.com. She is now writing about sleep disorders for the web site Health Central.

Florence is a member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) and of these RWA Chapters: http://www.rwanational.org/

In 2003 she attained her RWA PRO status. She attended the Romance Writers of America convention in Dallas in July 2004, the Writer's Weekend in Seattle in 2005 and the Romance Writer's Convention in Dallas in 2007. For several years, Florence served as a list administrator for Lovestory, Practice and Prose poetry for the Internet Writing Workshop (IWW.)

Florence has six children and eight grandchildren. Since the death of her husband, Norman, she has lived with one of her daughters in the Cold Lake area of east central Alberta. The rest of her children live in various towns in Alberta and British Columbia. She also shares her life with two orange tabby cats, and says that a house isn't a home unless there's a cat or two in it.
